The castle of Francavilla di Sicilia

There are not many news on the origins of the castle, nor many archaeological remains. It is thought that originally on this hill there was a Greek outpost, around the 5th century BC.
Subsequently some documents attest to the existence of a castle as well as a monastery, the Monastery of Santa Placa, built in the Norman era.
If the monastery, of which some remains still exist, was built in the Norman age, and since this area of Sicily is dotted with Norman castles, it is thought in conclusion and logically that this building is also of Norman origin, built therefore between the 1000 and 1100.
