The site, consisting of two main chambers, was initially used in the late ancient period (III – VI century AD) as a necropolis by the inhabitants of a local village. There are graves both outside, partially hidden by vegetation, and inside.
Cava dei Servi is a spectacular river valley excavated by the Tellesimo stream, in an area between Modica and Ragusa, more precisely in San Giacomo.
It is thought that the name Cava dei Servi is linked to the theory that the Servants of God were here. Other sources, however, claim that the name “Servi” is to be associated with the fact that the less wealthy families, belonging to the lower social ranks, lived here.

In these first days I went around this fantastic and pretty town in south-eastern Sicily: Scicli! Famous in recent times thanks to the fiction of Montalbano, as well as the inclusion of the heritage of the Late Baroque Cities of the Val di Noto, Scicli has grown in recent years of increasing popularity.
